Hi Nigel just finished listening to your xmas podcast while doing a 2 times round a local trail with 800ft gain and loss 6.4m with new inov8's on Boxing day before round 2 of over indulgence, loved every minute. have heared the last 4 and now getting used to your garmin beeps and not checking mine! I am 46 and started running in Feb 2011 joined a local running club and have not looked back.
Thanks for the pod-casts, I find myself answering you back on many occaisions, good luck with Parkruns, my local is Edinburgh where I intend to run on Saturday for my 15th,
I am a nurse working with rheumatology pts and although your wifes knee sounds bad it could just be overworking and some crosstrainig and less impact may be the way to go, it could be so many things, a blood test can rule out a lot.
I have set my 1000m/year goal on Garmin connect and am at 33% today after 4 months and 2 days so just behind..
good luck with all and keep up the good work
Kind regards Paul

I was so happy to hear you and your family decided to take the two sister kitties. We've had many cats and dogs over the years and our most recent adoption was of two little calico females who have been a pure delight. I also wanted to thank you for being such a delightful companion over the years as I've trained for half-marathons and, most recently, my first sprint triathlon. Having you in my earbuds makes the sometimes tedious miles slip away, and you always make me smile as I share the wildlife and scenery on your route. You probably aren't aware of the difference you make, but I thank you for it.

Such sad news Nigel. You gave your little Chloe a good life with a great family who cared for her. You know that you did everything that you could for her.

Nigel - you (rhetorically?) asked in your latest podcast about whether run-walking makes you a 'jogger'. I'd say definitely not, as I gauge that term for someone who views running as a secondary part of their fitness regimen. With regards your tendency to slow down through your run, that's simply bad pacing! My coach is Sean Wade, former NZ Olympic marathon runner, and if there's one thing he drills into his runners of all skill levels, it's the critical importance to negative split EACH and EVERY training run and race. Naturally, this is accomplished by purposefully running easily in the first half of every run, then working hard inthe final half. Finally, concerning your running form I've found extremely helpful a DVD entitled 'Evolution Running' which can be found on Amazon.com, ot the site by the same name.
